Location of the ELMI Meeting
Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary after Budapest. Debrecen is the regional center of the Northern Great Plain region and the seat of Hajdú-Bihar county. It was the largest Hungarian city in the 18th century and it is one of the most important cultural centers of the Hungarians. Debrecen was also the capital city of Hungary during the revolution in 1848-1849 and at the end of the World War II in 1944-1945.
The University of Debrecen is the oldest continuously operating institution of higher education in Hungary (since 1538). The university has a well established program in the English language for international students, particularly in the Medical field, which first established education in English in 1986. There are nearly 4000 international students studying at the university.
Kölcsey Center with its 13000m2 has no peers in Eastern Hungary concerning its size and quality. The designer’s dream was to create a “multifunctional” house, which can worthily host professional conferences as well as cultural events, where spaces can be joined or separated as preferred while the halls meet the highest technological demands.
